In a study conducted in Italy in 2007, 25 women with oligo-amenorrhea (irregular menses) or amenorrhea (no menses) due to PCOS were treated daily with myo-inositol and folic acid. All treated participants had at least one menstrual cycle, and 72% continued to ovulate normally. Forty percent became pregnant. The study concluded that: “Myo-inositol is a simple and safe treatment capable of restoring spontaneous ovarian activity and fertility in most patients with PCOS.” Over the past decade, myo-inositol has increasingly been used as a natural insulin sensitizer.
